
2008 Jim Lyle Award Winners
University of Idaho to honor:
Dennis Faucher ’60,’62
Dennis Faucher of Philadelphia has been honored by the Alumni Association as a recipient of the Jim Lyle Award for long term volunteer service to the University of Idaho. He has been active in leadership serving his alma mater.
He earned a B.S. degree magma cum laude in Business, and a J.D. degree summa cum laude in Law from the University of Idaho.
Dennis served on the College of Law advisory board, 1999-2003; and was presented the College of Law, Award of Legal Merit in 2004. For the past seven years he has actively served on the University of Idaho Foundation, and has been active with the Board of Directors.
Dennis remains active serving the University of Idaho and is a model citizen and leader. A colleague wrote of Denny’s university service, “he has been regarded as a rock of responsibility and sound judgment”. In a letter of recommendation, an associate also wrote, “Dennis personifies the very essence of the Jim Lyle Award”.
Brian Hill '65
Brian Hill of Portland, Oregon is a recipient of the 2008 Jim Lyle Award, presented by the Alumni Association for long term volunteer service to the University of Idaho. Brian is an University of Idaho 1965 graduate with a B.S. Chemistry major. He did post graduate work at Montana State University, earning a Ph.D. He spent most of his professional career at 3M corporation in Minneapolis, Minnesota starting as a scientist and retiring as director of new business development. Upon retirement he and his wife Gayle ’65 moved to Portland, Oregon.
In recent years Brian was very active in national leadership of the Alumni Association, representing the Minnesota area. During this time he actively worked on student identification and recruitment in the Minneapolis area. He was national president of the Alumni Association Board of Directors in 2004-05. He recently has been a key volunteer with the Portland alumni chapter. Dr. Hill serves on the College of Science Advisory Board, where he is active in strategic planning and marketing with the board.
Dean of College of Science Scott Wood said, “Brian’s long record of enthusiastic volunteer service to the University of Idaho truly goes above and beyond the call of duty. He is a strong supporter of our strategic priorities and the university”.
Herald Nokes '50
Selected for the 2008 Jim Lyle Award, recognizing volunteer service, is Dr. Herald Nokes, a 1950 graduate of the University of Idaho with a bachelor degree in forest resources. He is being honored for long time community service and volunteer service to the University of Idaho, and it’s College of Natural Resources.
Dr. Nokes has been an active member of the McCall Memorial Hospital Board of Directors, Lake Irrigation Board of Directors, and the Central Idaho Historical Museum as well as the president of the Southern Idaho Timber Protective Association.
“It’s my distinct privilege to congratulate Dr. Herald Nokes on receiving the University of Idaho’s Jim Lyle Service Award. Herald and his wife, Donna, have established a legacy of service to their community and the university. Herald’s involvement in forestry workshops on his family forest, the couples’ 2006 gift of 1,650 acres of forestland to the College of Natural Resources Experimental Forest, and their deep commitment to the wise management and conservation of natural resources are testaments to their support of our college and its programs,” said College of Natural Resources Dean Steven Daley-Laursen.
