Jeffrey Ashby Jeffrey Ashby is a mechanical engineer and a Captain in the U.S. Navy. He has over 6000 flight hours and 1000 carrier landings. He was part of the five-member Space Shuttle Columbia mission in July, 1999. During Operation Desert Storm he flew 33 combat missions in the FA-18 aircraft. He has been very active in the formation and development of the Melanoma Research Foundation. Jeff has been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, and Meritorious Service Medal, as well as many other awards, during his 16-year tenure as a fleet Navy pilot.
Colonel Robert Cobb Colonel Robert Cobb is a decorated soldier in the U.S. Army, with a distinguished career in WWII. He was a courageous leader. He fought in North Africa, Sicily and Europe; serving as a battalion commander during the Battle of the Bulge. He was decorated with the Distinguished Service Cross, two Silver Stars, three Bronze Stars and the Legion of Merit honor. Those are just a sampling of his 32 military awards and citations. After graduation from UI with a BS in Business, in June, 1940, he was commissioned as a Reserve 2nd Lieutenant. He retired from the US Army in 1965.
Edward Groff Edward Groff is a civil engineer with 33 years of service with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He was involved in the design and construction of eight of the ten Corps' flood control and hydroelectric projects on the Columbia River and its tributaries. He retired from the Corp if Engineers in 1989 as Design Branch Chief. In 1996, he was elected national president of the American Society of Civil Engineers, a professional group with over 120,000 members.
Michael Kirk Michael Kirk manages his own company, Kirk Documentary Group and has gained a national reputation in documentary television/film production. He began his career as reporter/producer of KUID-TV on campus at the UI. He went on to Seattle, KCTS and was recognized for his documentary works. He is active with the PBS documentary series Frontline, and has won many major national awards for broadcast journalism, including Peabody, EMMY, and DuPont-Columbia Awards. Mike is a former Nieman Fellow at Harvard University in 1979-80.
Clifford Schoff Clifford Schoff is a scientist with PPG Industries, and is involved with the Coatings and Resins Division. He is active as a chemist for automotive products testing and problem solving. He is internationally recognized for contributions to polymer science in protective and decorative coatings. Schoff was recently selected as the Mattiello Lecturer at the annual meeting of the Federation of Societies for Coatings Technology.
Dr. Helen Washburn Dr. Helen Washburn is President of Cottey College, a two-year liberal arts college in Nevada, Missouri. She has served as Associate Professor of Education and Dean of Graduate Studies at Albertson College of Idaho. She has served as President of the American Counseling Association. She serves on the Missouri Coordinating Board of Higher Education Presidential Advisory Committee. In 1988 she was presented the UI Silver and Gold Award, recognizing her distinguished service within higher education. |
