Scholarship
UIRA Committees | UIRA Home

Committee: Dick Heimsch, Lois Pritchett, and Kathleen Johnson

The Scholarship Committee should consist of at least three members of the UIRA. The committee is responsible for determining the number of awards to be given, and their amounts, as interest on the endowment increases. To date, one $1000 scholarship is applied to registration for the academic year that follows the award. The Scholarship amount may be increased in increments of $250, and the number of awards may be increased. If more than one award is made, each will be of equal amount. The committee will come before the Board at the February meeting to present their proposal for the number of award(s) to be given.

The committee advertises the availability of the annual UIRA Scholarship and is responsible for receiving, reviewing, selecting a winner and a first alternate, and submitting their recommendation to the UIRA Board for action at their April meeting. The Committee will need to work with the Alumni Office liaison. The Scholarship Committee will advertise the availability of the scholarship award in the UIRA Report, with an application form included. The committee will send a reminder letter and scholarship application form to the UIRA membership in January of the year the scholarship is to be awarded. After the UIRA Board has approved the Scholarship Committee's recommendation for scholarship winner and 1st alternate, the chairman will send a memo to the Director of Financial Aid, giving the name and address of the scholarship winner for the purpose of notifying the winner. The chairman of the committee will send letters to all scholarship applicants notifying them of the status of their application.
